17. We can't remember clearly since when we started to take our mobiles to a dinner table. This happens a lot, especially when we eat out. Once a dish comes, instead of lifting our chopsticks, we take out our mobiles and click. Later, we post the photos onto Weibo or Wechat, waiting to be "liked". Then we check our mobiles from time to time during the meal, to see whether we get"liked"or not. We just cannot leave our mobiles for only a meal.
Does that sound familiar to you? Do you do that often? If not, how do you feel when others do that when having dinner with you?
A recent study suggests that what we are used to doing is not so good. Spending time taking photos of food makes the food less pleasant. To test this, some researchers did an experiment. Some people were asked to take photos before they could enjoy food. As a result, it showed that the more photos they took, _______. So, why not stop taking photos and just enjoy the food in front of you?
Besides the scientific result, there are also some other bad influences of taking photos of food before meals. After posting the photos onto the Internet, one will not be able to control himself and check his mobile many times. "Does everyone like my photos?I hope a lot of people like them!" It seems that your mobile secretly calls your name all the time, even when you are with real people.
So, next time you go out to have dinner with your family or friends, how about not taking photos of food?Let the food be delicious as it is and share your life with people around you. Trust me, it will be a wonderful time.
18. I was traveling alone through the UK. To reach places that were off the public transportation map, I bought an old car, which cost most of my money. I couldn't afford to stay in the hotel, so I had to camp in my car for the rest of the trip.
One morning I awoke in my old car on a country road in Ireland and saw a single house. The water in my thermos (保温瓶) had gone cold, so I knocked on the door of the house. A woman opened it. I asked her for some hot water. But she wouldn't let me get away with just that! I was invited indoors. She asked me to sit at the table and have breakfast with her family. They filled my thermos before I left.
I was greatly moved. And I decided to pass the kindness on. The other day I met a young man who had been driving around to look for a parking lot. He looked increasingly upset. I was glad that I was able to point one out to him. His thankful smile was the hugest reward (奖赏) for me.

The professor began to ask. The student was asked to describe a certain illness, his description of which turned out to be OK.
Then the professor asked about the cure (治疗) for illness, and the student also answered just as right.
"Good," said the professor, "and how much will you give the patient?"
"A full spoon (勺子)." answered the student.
"Now you may go out and wait for what you can get," said the professor. At the same time the committee discussed carefully the answers the student had given. Suddenly the student noticed that there was something wrong with his last answer. "A full spoon is too much," he thought to himself. Anxiously, he opened the door of the room and cried, "Mr. Professor, I've made a mistake! A spoon is too much for the patient. He can take only five drops."
"I'm sorry, sir," said the professor coldly, "but it's too late. Your patient has died."

28. A few days ago I sent out several hundred letters for information on subjects that interest me. One of the questions I asked was "When you think of love, what color comes to your mind?"
One person said "money". I didn't know what color that was, maybe green, but I wasn't sure. Two people said love didn't have any color. Two other people said love was the color of the rainbow. That's a nice thought. Only three people chose red as the color of love. This surprised me since red is the color used most on Valentine's Day. Four people chose white and four people chose yellow. I think they want a pure love or a wise and happy love. Pink is the choice of five people who I think need beauty in their lives. Six people said either lavender (淡紫色), lilac (丁香紫) or violet (紫罗兰色) was the color of love. I think all of them want some magic and mystery in their lives. Green was the color chosen by seven people at the color of love. These people must want a balanced love and maybe some money too.
The most surprising answer was that 14 people chose blue. I think these people may know about love. Love should be sincere and true. Maybe if you have "the blues", it is because you don't have love. Most blues music is about lost love, so I just can't imagine sending a blue heart to my lover next Valentine's Day.
