17.Chinese Opera Cartoon Festival Kicks off Thursday
http: //www. chinadaily. com. cn 2021-02-02
An art festival that calls attention to Chinese opera cartoons will kick off in Beijing on Thursday, Feb 4 and run until Feb 26. The festival is prepared by the Chaoyang Cultural Center and the Culture and Travel Office of Chaoyang, Beijing. The staff members are hoping the festival will get more foreigners and young people to learn more about traditional Chinese culture.
Classical Chinese operas, chosen from 360 kinds of operas in China, are made into cartoons and will be shown to the public. The cartoon characters look lively and cute, which can quickly be loved by the public. Activities will also be held during the festival, such as showing the primary posters and writings, and opera costumes.
Since the festival is mainly held online, people can take part in the activities by watching videos on online short-video platforms (平台) like Douyin and Huoshan Video, known as Tik Tok and Vigo Video outside China.
People can also enjoy a 360-degree wide view of the activities online. By clicking a mouse of a computer or using a mobile phone, people can choose wherever they like to view the activities at home.
18. It seems that food deliverymen (送货员) are always rushing in haste. We can always see them running every minute, and they seem to have lots of things to do the next minute. They wear blue, red or yellow helmets (头盔) and many of them don't follow traffic rules. They drive on the wrong side of the road and run red lights. They use mobile phones when they are driving.
However, not everything goes well with food deliverymen. In the first half of 2017, food deliverymen had 76 traffic accidents in Shanghai. That means every two and a half days, a food deliveryman will die or get hurt on the road.
What makes deliverymen take such risks? The strict rules of the food delivery companies and the worried customers may be the answer. Many companies will fine (罚款) a deliveryman up to 2,000 yuan if he can't deliver the food on time, reported China Daily. Fines also go to those who get bad reviews from customers.
To solve the problem, food delivery service companies need to do some changes. Some cities are also taking action. Shanghai has asked companies to train their deliverymen on traffic rules and safety. Now in Shenzhen, if a deliveryman breaks traffic rules more than twice, then he can't do the job for a whole year.
19. "Life's a long, long journey," so we are told, and most of us would not set off on a journey, even a short one, without some ideas of where we wanted to go. Yet many people travel on life's journey with no sense of direction at all.
Setting personal goals can give your life a sense of direction. Goal setting is used by top sports players, successful business people and achievers in all fields. Before you set personal goals, think about what you want to achieve with your life.
Try to set goals in some of the following categories (类别):
Education — Will you achieve the educational goals after finishing high school? Are you still growing and learning?
Family — What kind of relationship do you want with your parents and other family members?
Creative — Do you want to achieve any artistic goals?
Career — What job do you want to take when you grow up? What do you need to make your dream come true?
Public Service — Do you want to make the world a better place?
Physical — Are you fit enough to do the things you want to do?
Pleasure — How do you want to enjoy yourself?
To help make the process more manageable, divide your goals into smaller tasks. For example, if you want to reach a main goal in five years, set a three-year goal, a one-year goal, a three-month goal and a one-month goal. Then create a daily To-Do List of things that you should do today. When a goal is achieved, take the time to enjoy your success. This helps you build the self-confidence.
Remember, your goals can be changed as time goes on. But be sure your goals are the things you hope to achieve, not what your parents, family or teachers want.
20.Playing for Friendship
Ping-pong, or table tennis, might seem like an ordinary game to play with friends or family, but it holds a special place in China-US relations, as it has helped both countries get along for the last 50 years. This has been called "ping-pong diplomacy (乒乓外交)".
Judy Hoarfrost was just 15 years old when she was sent from the US to China as part of a nine-member table tennis team. The year was 1971, and for the past 20 years, relations between China and the US had been unfriendly.
But as the team toured around China, things started warming up. Hoarfrost even got to meet then — Premier Zhou Enlai. "The most unforgettable moment was Zhou shaking hands with me and looking into my eyes," Hoarfrost told China Daily. "You have opened a new page in China-US relationships," Zhou told the team.
In the years that followed the historic visit, ties between the two countries started to blossom. US president Richard Nixon would make a landmark (里程碑) visit to China in 1972, which also saw Chinese table tennis players make their own visit to the US, according to China Daily. Diplomatic relations between the US and China were fully established (建立) in 1979.
Players from both countries believed strongly in the idea of "friendship first, competition second". To this day, many of them remain friends. Hoarfrost thinks we should remember ping-pong diplomacy in order "to understand the importance of people-to-people exchanges in establishing bonds, human bonds between peoples."
Seeing tension (紧张局面) between two of the world's biggest powers in recent years, Hoarfrost said China and the US should work together. "We have so much in common, and we need to build on what we have in common," she added.
