4. Albert Einstein and Wolfgang Mozart are possibly the two most famous examples of people who are geniuses (天才). But unlike Mozart, Einstein wasn't very talented as a kid. Born in Germany in 1879, he was slow to learn to speak, and he was a normal student at school. He was interested in math and science, but he liked to study at home better. Later he studied to be a teacher, but he didn't find a job in a school and for some years, he was an office worker. A lot of Einstein's most famous ideas were the result of study in his free time, when he also played the violin to relax.
From 1908, he was a university teacher for many years, first in Europe and then in the US. He was the winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921. He was famous for the theory of relativity (相对论), but only several scientists could understand it. His biggest dream was to find one explanation for the basic(基础的)ideas in physics but he died before this was possible.
As a famous scientist, Einstein got letters from people around the world. Some of the letters were from children and he always answered them. One letter was from a girl with math problems at school. "Do not worry about your difficulties in math" was his answer "I can tell you that mine are still greater."
Einstein died in a hospital in 1955. He was named "Person of the Century" in 1999 by Time Magazine.
5. Do you want to make the world a better place?Do you believe the power of love can change the world?LovePowerup, a new free app makes sending and receiving love as simple as moving a finger. The goal is to bring about world peace.
LovePowerup users can send love around the world to people who need love. They can also ask for a little love when they need. You can send and receive love from Facebook friends by LovePowerup as well.
A map in the app shows in real time where a user's love goes. A line starts at the location of the sender and flies across the world. When you receive love from a friend, a heart icon (图标) appears on the map. Click on it to see who has sent you love, along with any message your friend may have sent. The LovePowerup designer Matt Fortnow had the great idea from a famous singer Jimi Hendrix, who once told his fans, 'When the power of love beats all, the world will know peace.'
"I've always been moved by Jimi's message and wanted to find out a way to use modern technology to increase the power of love in the world, " Fortnow explains. 'LovePowerup helps us realize we are not alone there;we're all together with each other. The closer we feel to others around the world, the sooner we will know peace.'
Fortnow was moved to create LovePowerup after getting better from a serious illness, where kindness and love from his doctor played a key role. Fortnow is now fixing his attention on LovePowerup and other projects helping build a better world.
6. I am a professor of sports and exercise so I often deal with nervousness in my research with sports people. Actually, most people experience nervousness at some time or another.
If you are feeling anxious, my advice is to first find the cause or causes. Make a list of those things that are making you nervous and work out which ones you can do something about. Focus all of your efforts on managing the causes that you can control.
Most people cannot tell the difference between controllable (可控制的) and uncontrollable causes, so things they can't control become a big reason for nervousness. Dealing with this is very important if people want to keep a healthy mind.
Simply try to accept the uncontrollable causes of nervousness. You might be worried about the weather on a big day, an accident or an attack on the train, or perhaps just things that other people are doing at work. The results may be very important but there is still no use worrying because you can't control any of these things. Accept that you can't control everything. Once you understand this, it becomes easier not to worry.
If a situation, such as swimming, is causing you to be anxious, try to face it as often as possibly so that you can get used to it.
It can often help to think about yourself doing the thing that makes you nervous — then close your eyes and imagine it going well, imagine how the flight or job interview is going to happen so that you can get used to it. This will help you understand that the thing you fear most is probably not going to happen.
