Kathy: an animal doctorWhat's the worst thing that's ever happened in your job? Probably the dog that bit me. It wasn't a big one—I'm not afraid of the big ones. The small ones are the worst. It gave me a very nasty(凶狠的)bite. Have you ever done any other jobs? Yes, I did many kinds of jobs when I was a student. One summer I did fruit﹣picking in Spain. What's the worst job you've ever done? In order to improve my English, I worked for a rich family in New York. I never had a day off and I had to do everything—cooking, cleaning, shopping—and look after their bad children. I left after two weeks and managed to get a job as a waitress in an Italian restaurant.
Peter: an actorWhat's the worst thing that's ever happened in your job? So many bad things have happened—but I think my worst moment was when I read my first bad review in the newspaper. They wrote terrible things about me, and I was so angry. After that I didn't read my reviews any more. Have you ever done any other jobs? Oh yes, it's hard to make a living as an actor. So I've done lots of part﹣time jobs over the years. For example, I've worked in a shop, sold ice cream at the beach. What's the worst job you've ever done? The worst job I've ever done was at an egg﹣packing factory. Working conditions are terrible—you stand for hours at the end of a belt(传送带), putting eggs into boxes. You can't have a break, and if you want to go to the toilet, you have to ask for permission. And worst of all, the smell was terrible—I've never eaten an egg since then.

Mr. Green:When the car accident happened, I was buying daily things in the store. I remembered the car number of the white car.
Alice: I was calling up my grandparents when the car accident happened. I was so nervous and I forgot to write down the car number.
George: I was walking my dog along the street. When I saw it, I called the police at once. There were lots of people around them.
13. People are always trying to live a healthy life. You might have read so much on this topic. The following ideas may sound strange, but they can really help you.
  Exercise when you are tired.
After a long and tiring day of study, exercising might not sound like a good idea, but it should. In fact, physical activities can provide you with the missing energy. Research shows that exercising for just 30 minutes can make you feel good!
Write by hand to help the brain be active.
Although writing something using a computer is faster, it is much better to remember the whole thing by writing it down by hand. When you read a handwritten text, naturally it′s easier for your brain to remember the information.
  Spare more time for yourself.
By sparing the time for yourself and just being alone for a while, you can have a chance to think and get to know yourself better. And you won′t behave impulsively(冲动地).
Drink hot drinks on a hot day.
What cools more on a hot summer morning, cold water or hot water? The study shows that the hot water does make people feel cooler. When you are drinking something hot, the body will feel the change in temperature and increase the perspiration(流汗), which helps you cool down!
14. Most children don't enjoy doing housework. They like playing computer games rather than cleaning the rooms. But in Australia, Jim and Robert's mother, Mrs. Black, has good and proper methods (方法) to get their children to do housework. Here is an example.
"Mom, have you worked out next week's housework?Let Jim and me choose the cards. I can't wait. It's fun!"
When Robert shouted out, his mother had already put all the cards on their big table. On the cards, there are some words like these, "sweep the floor, clean your bedroom, help mom cook, wash vegetables, make beds, feed the fish, cut the wood, clean the bathroom" and many. Jim and Robert chose two cards for each day from Monday to Friday. Then they would them on the weekday task board. Jim likes to clean the bathroom (浴室), so he picked up (捡起) the card "clean the bathroom". Robert loves to make the bed so he picked up his favorite card. Jim again picked up "wash vegetables" and Robert chose "feed the fish". Soon the two boys were happy to take away all the cards.
To help the children do housework, their mother thought hard and came up with this idea. Of course, the parents did the housework on the weekends and left Jim and Robert two days.
15. I have a special place in my heart for libraries. I was always a crazy reader, sometimes reading up to three books a day as a child. Stories were like air to me and when other kids played ball or went to parties, I lived out adventures (冒险) in the books I checked out from the library.
My first job was working at the Ukiah Library when I was 16 years old. It was a dream job and I did everything from shelving books to reading to the children for story time.
As I grew older and became a mother, this library took on a new place and added meaning in my life I had several children, and books were our main source (来源) of happiness. It was a big event for us to get prepared and go to the local library, where my kids could pick out books to read or books they wanted me to read to them.
Now, I see my children taking their children to the library and I love that the excitement of going to the library lives on from generation (一代人) to generation.
As a novelist, I've found a new relationship with libraries. I see libraries as a safe haven (避风港) for readers and writers, a bridge that helps put together a reader with a book. Libraries, in their own way, help fight book piracy (盗版行为). So firstly, I encourage readers to go to their local library when they can't afford to buy a book. And secondly, I think all the writers should support libraries by sharing library activities on their social media. They should talk about these activities and take part in them when they can.
