"I went shopping with grandma last weekend, " Mary said. "The Zee jeans were on sale. They have cool pockets and are unbelievably comfortable. When you're at my house after school, try them on and see for yourself. "
"Hmm. " I didn't think so. But when I tried them on, I couldn't help agreeing. As soon as I got home, I told my mom that I wanted to buy a pair of Zee jeans.
Mom said, "Alice, you already have three pairs of good jeans. There is no way Dad and I are paying that much for another pair of jeans. If you want to buy them with your own money, I would be happy to make a long list of chores you can do. "
  "I'll start this minute, " I said.
It took me three weeks to save enough money. I took out the rubbish, took care of my little brother, and cleaned our washroom. The washroom cleaning was the worst. It took me one and a half hours to clean it up!
Anyway, I finally bought my Zee jeans, and I loved them even more than I thought. I loved them half because they had cool pockets and super comfortable, and half because I have worked so hard to make the money to buy them myself.

I don't know how long it took me to get to school, but I do remember how I felt when I came around the last street corner, and saw my school. I jumped up and down. I wished I could tell my father that I made it.
My father wasn't there when I got home and I was asleep when he got home. The next day I waited for him to ask what had happened. He never did. Years later, I asked him why he did that and why he didn't care what had happened. He just looked at me for a while and then said. "I didn't have to ask you, because I knew. I followed you all the way. I saw you jump up and down at the last street corner. I felt what you felt. " Then I understood and cried.
15. Would you like to live in a city where buildings turn the lights off for you, and self﹣driving cars will find the nearest parking space themselves?Although it might sound a little far from you, living in a "smart" city like this could happen sooner than you think.
Great changes have taken place in towns that we have lived in for centuries, while completely new cities are being built. One such place is the city of Songdo. Every home there will have a "telepresence" system(远程遥控系统)—allowing users to control the heating and locks, take part in video meetings, and receive education, health care and government services. Around the city, escalators(自动扶梯)will only move when someone is on them, and offices and schools will all be connected to the system.
The great mind behind Songdo is from the company Cisco. In fact, technology companies around the world such as IBM, Siemens and Microsoft are already in the business.
About 75% of the world's population will live in cities by 2050, so cities will need to be smarter to deal with the coming problems. "Making cities smarter is one way out, and I think this will in turn make cities greener, " said Dan Hill, head of a research company.

Several hours later, when the train arrived in Wuhan, Dalian was asked to get off, as he was in the special carriage. He had to get off the carriage with just a single bag.
Because of the epidemic(疫情), Wuhan had been locked down. So Dalian couldn't find a hotel to stay in. Feeling sad, he saw a notice online looking for volunteers to work in hospitals. Dalian decided to give it a try.
He soon became a volunteer in Wuhan No. 1 Hospital. He was responsible for(对……负责)taking out rubbish, sweeping the floor, disinfecting(消毒)the hospital, dealing with used protective suits(防护服)and bringing meals to patients.
The young man, reportedly from northeast China, had to work 12 hours every day, changing his protective suit three times a day. While working, he couldn't drink anything or go to the bathroom. He also had to look after infected patients, which is risky(冒风险的).
Dalian was afraid of getting infected at first. "When I entered the wards(病房), I was kind of frozen(僵硬的)and felt like I couldn't move, " he said. But after he saw more patients get better, his fear gradually went away.
Dalian's story has gone viral(走红的)online. People were surprised by his experience, and described him as having "a heart of gold".
