Hi!I'm Bing Dwen Dwen. I have a cartoon image (形象)of a panda wearing a spacesuit, which looks like a winter sportsman from the future. "Bing" means "ice" in Chinese, which is a symbol of winter sports. "Dwen Dwen" suggests health and shows the spirit of the Olympics, including a strong mind and a healthy body.
Hello! My name is Shuey Rhon Rhon. I look like a red lantern, just like the lanterns hanging on homes and streets to celebrate Chinese New Year. On my head are paper cuts of pigeons(鸽子), "Shuey" means "snow" in Chinese. "Rhon Rhon" are two different Chinese characters (汉字)with the same pronunciation. Shuey Rhon Rhon symbolizes (象征) communication among different cultures.

The idea behind these two mascots is to connect traditional Chinese culture with the Games. The panda is designed with its modern look to show our great expectations(期盼)for the Games and our welcome to the whole world. The red image of "Rhon Rhon" reminds people of the celebration of China's Spring Festival.
19. It's never too late to learn. Emily Johnson was already thirty when she decided to go back to college to finish her degree. Ten years had passed since she last attended East Los Angeles College (ELAC), a community college. It had been her dream to finish her 2﹣year courses at ELAC and went to Cal State L. A. Emily was not able to finish because she started working. Even though Emily found a good job, she still had a wish to complete her education. After all, what kind of example would she be setting for her daughters by not receiving her degree?Emily wanted her children to succeed by going to college and getting a better job than she had.
Emily had always known the difficulties of going to school while working and taking care of two daughters. And she faced the challenges. She went to work during the daytime and went to class in the evening after taking her daughters to her mother's house. It took her only one year to finish 2﹣year courses. And then she went into Cal State L. A. successfully.
Emily's time at the university was a little more gruelling, compared to ELAC, where she had been studying sociology(社会学). She faced the same challenges again. 20. We've all seen the beautiful photos of colourful vegetables and freshly﹣cooked cakes in books and magazines. When we see these pictures, we believe that if we follow the instructions that tell us how to cook them, we can make food that looks like that too. However, not many people think about a strange thing that how photographers(摄影师)change a simple plate of food into the mouth﹣watering dishes in the photos.
Food is one of the most difficult subjects for photographers. Hot food goes cold, cold food goes dry, and frozen food melts(融化), making it useless. But don't worry, because food photographers have the tools to deal with these problems. They don't just visit photography shops. They also visit art shops, garages and pharmacies (汽修厂和药店). As well as camera equipment, a photographer's bag includes motor oil (机油)to help sauces (调味汁)look brighter, hairspray (发胶)to stop cakes looking dry, and the shoe polish (鞋油) to help meat look cooked.
There are a few rules about food that photographers have to follow. If a photo is going to become part of an advertisement (广告), rules say the food which people want to advertise must be the real thing. However, any other food in the photo doesn't need to be real. Plastic "fruit" or glass "ice" in a drink next to the real dessert is OK, according to the rules. Of course, some photographers choose not to use non﹣food (非食物)objects in their photos, even when the rules allow it, but that does make their job much more challenging.
Whether a food photographer believes in using tricks (花招) or not, one thing is true:food photography needs a lot of patience.
