11. Classmates' laughter, parents' nagging (唠叨), beautiful music — we can hear all kinds of (1)       every day. However, that wasn't the case with Jiang Mengnan.
At just 6 months old, Jiang lost her (2)       after relatives gave her the wrong medicine. To understand others, Jiang learned to read lips and feel vocalization (发声) by putting her hands on her parents' throats and feeling the vibration (振动) of their vocal cords (声带)(3)       she was a kid.
It was a slow, hard process, but Jiang never (4)      . As she got older, Jiang entered a standard primary school to study. She said it was (5)       at first. During lessons, teachers would often turn their backs to students and walk around, so Jiang (6)       to catch much of what they said. What she could do was to(7)      everything on the blackboard and study after class.
Her perseverance made her a very (8)      student. In 2011, she was admitted to Jilin University in Changchun, Jilin province. After graduating in 2018 with a master's degree, Jiang furthered (9)       studies in Tsinghua University.
Now, the 30-year-old girl is going to receive her doctorate at the end of this year. Feeling grateful for the respect and help that she received (10)       others, Jiang wants to continue scientific research in pharmacology (药物学) and contribute to solving problems relating to life and health.
12. During the two sessions (两会), Generation Z (people born1995﹣2009) share their thoughts about China. Let's take a look.
People need to pay attention to the mental (心理) health of teenagers, especially during the "double reduction" policy. Some of my friends felt more and more stress from their parents' high expectations, as well as being compared with others. We really need help with stress.
—Zhang Kexin, 14, from Beijing
My school sets up many clubs in our after-school classes to help students understand the importance of traditional culture. I join a paper-cutting workshop and a hanfu club. Take paper-cutting as an example. It has not only helped me practice my handcraft skills but also let me know the beauty of art.
—Zhao Yan, Junior 2, from Liaoning
It's important for China to build "national fitness". I love jumping and playing ping-pong. Doing exercise gives me energy and makes me feel happy. However, some students are too busy with studies to do any exercise. We should do more exercise to build our body. Only strong people can build a strong nation.
—Yin Peixin, 11, from Wuhan
13. The year 2022 will be a big year for sports in China, for it will hold not only the 24th Winter Olympics in Beijing, but also the l9th Asian Games (亚运会) in Hangzhou.
On August 6th, 2018, the official emblem (会徽) for the Hangzhou HARSZAPE Asian Games came out. The city won the hosting rights for the 2022 Asian Games in 2015. It will be the third Chinese city to host the Asian Games after Beijing and Guangzhou in 1990 and 2010.
First held in 1951, the Asian Games is the largest multi﹣sport event in Asia. It also means a lot to China.
The Beijing Asian Games was the first large international sports event hosted by China. To make the Games a great success, Chinese people worked hard to prepare. Beijing built a great number of roads and stadiums (体育馆), including the famous Beijing Olympic Sports Centre and Asian Games Village. The Games helped the world see China and its achievements. Since then, China has improved its global image.
For the upcoming 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou has already started building 33 sports venues (场所). The themes for the Hangzhou Asian Games are" green, smart, economical (节俭) and civilized (文明). All the Games' buildings will be environmentally friendly.
14. "I don't think about winning or losing during the competition. I just do my best, and the rewards (奖励) come naturally," Gu Ailing, free skier from Chinese Winter Olympic team, said in an interview.
When I had this interview with Gu in 2021, the young skier had just achieved"record﹣breaking wins for two gold medals at the world championships in Aspen, US. But what impressed me most was how she treated her great achievements. While many people, consider Gu talented, she believes she is just one of the many sports lovers, who, with such pure passion (纯净的热情) , could overcome any obstacles or setbacks and enjoy doing what they love.
Her words struck a chord (引起共鸣) with me. As a young journalist covering the youth of today, I have written thousands of reports, digging up inspirational stories of Gen Zers who are born between 1995 and 2010. I also look for different ways to make their stories known by more people. For example, I have made videos on hot topics while also writing articles.
My efforts have reaped (收获) fruits. On April 15, I was awarded as a national outstanding member of the Communist Youth League of China (中国共青团).
I am so honored, but what makes me more thrilled is that some of my interviewees are also on the 1 list. We are all exploring different career paths, but we share the same attitude toward our passions like Gu. This award, I believe, is for the spirit of Chinese young people.
For example, the awardees from the Sanxingdui Museum have a passion to bring the 3,000-year-old Sanxingdui relics back to life and reveal a magnificent civilization in history. In October 2021, I went to the museum and interviewed two young restorers (修复师) there. Through working with them I got to know that restoration is a long process, and they might repeat one single action carefully every day for several months. "We are doing ordinary things and we just do our best," said one of the restorers.
I believe similar situations can be found in the story of every awardee. Just as the lyrics of the popular song Lonely Warrior(《孤勇者》) go, "who said heroes can't be ordinary souls?"We are all ordinary people. doing our best for our passions, and together, we can make extraordinary achievements.
15. People do not often think about the women's national team when it comes to Chinese football. That was until the ladies completed an amazing second-half comeback in the final of the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup on February 6.
The ladies were playing against South Korea. The halftime score (2﹣0)came as a big disappointment. However, the Chinese ladies on the field didn't lose heart. Instead, they fought back. In the second half of the match, Tang Jiali, Zhang Linyan and Xiao Yuyi each scored a goal and beat South Korea 3﹣2.
Their final win sent the team to the headlines of almost every newspaper in China. But it's hard to say how long this spotlight (聚光灯) will last. Will people continue to care about these female (女) players and the successors who come after in the years to come? There has long been a belief that football is only for boys. Pu Wei, now retired (退休), is one of the best female footballers in Chinese history. When she was a little girl, her father wanted her to become a dancer or a pianist. He could hardly imagine his little girl chasing after a ball. Pu had to fool her father into believing that she was just going jogging (慢跑) when, in fact, she was going to play football. Many female footballers had similar experiences when they were young.
Apart from the absence of support and attention, female footballers face many other challenges. They are, for example, often paid much less than male footballers. In terms of income (收入), none of the top ten. international footballers is a female.
When we congratulate the female footballers on their historic win, we shouldn't forget all of the difficulties they have bravely overcome to get where they are today. The next time you talk about Chinese national football, be sure to mention the team that has won the Asian Cup. The girls deserve (值得) more of our attention and support.

M: What happened next?
