Not caring about the money, parents often send their children to the best schools or even abroad to study. Many force their children to take after﹣school activities. Parents believe that the more expensive an education is, the better it is. So they pay an unreasonable amount of money for education. Even poor couples buy a piano for their children.
However, most parents fail to realize that different children have different special skills. They are good in some areas while poor in others. The problem is that parents are only educating their children on how to get good grades. They pay less attention to some most important skills that can build the children's confidence and fill them with pride.
In fact, it is easy for parents to help children achieve these by teaching practical skills like cooking, sewing and other housework. Cooking will improve many skills children need later in life. Though demanding patience and time, it is an enjoyable experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking, so he works hard and gradually finishes his job successfully. The result, a well-cooked dinner, will make him satisfied and confident.
Some old machines, such as a broken radio or TV set that you give your child as a toy to play with will make him interested. If he spends hours looking at them and trying to fix them, he might become an engineer when he grows up. These activities are teaching children to think and to use their minds, which is more important.
