2. A man sat at an underground station in Washington, D. C. and stared to play the violin. It was a cold day in January. He played (巴赫) pieces about 45 minutes. Thousands of people went through the station in a hurry, most of them on her way to work.
Three minutes went by and the first person. a middle-aged man, noticed there was a musician Playing. He slowed down and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to go to work.
After a minute, received his first dollar, a young woman threw the money in the Box. and continued to walk. Then another few minutes went by and someone stood against the wall to listen to him, but he young man looked at his watch and shared to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.
During the musician's performance, only a few people gave response (反应) to him: six people stopped and stayed for a while, twenty gave him money but continued to walk. When he finished playing, no one applauded (鼓掌): No one knew the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world.
This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing in the underground station was organized by The Washington Post( 《华盛顿邮报》)as part of a social experiment (实验). What we learn from this experiment could be: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music, how many other nice things are we missing?
3. October 16 is World Food Day. The UN started the day in 1979. It is used to remind people not to waste food and to ask people to fight hunger (饥饿).
A big member of people in the world still don't have enough to eat. Food shortage (匮乏) is a big problem in the world. Right now, there are more than 1000 million hungry people in the world according to the UN. Many children go to sleep, hungry and 15 million of them die of hunger each year.
There are several reasons why there are food shortages. First, there have been more droughts (干旱) and floods recently. Also, a growing population makes feeding everyone more difficult.
Another several reasons is food waste . Most people don't realize how much food they throw away every day. On avenge (平均), person throws away 50 kilos of food every year. According to the UN, more than 1/3 of all food produced in the word goes to waste each year. The amount (数量)of food wasted in Europe can feed 200 million people and the food wasted in Lain America can feed 300 million a year.
So think twice next time you want to throw away food. If you try to avoid wasting food, you could save some food and help hungry children. Only order as much food as you can eat at a restaurant. If you can't eat all you order, take the rest home. Don't be too picky about food so that you don't leave any on your plate . Keep eye on what food you have at home. Don't buy or cook too much.
4. Starting high school can be difficult. Everyone is nervous and nobody knows where to go for classes. But don't worry, because you are not alone. You are going to school with a group of students of your age. 1.      
Forget your fear and just talk to someone. It is easier said than done. But try to take a deep breath and find your voice. Don't be afraid to get close to people.2.        Sit in the middle of the classroom with as many new friends around you as possible.
Join clubs. Take part in after school activities that interest you. 3.       Being in a club makes you more social. If you don't join any clubs, you will just go to class and then go home.
Stay clean. No one likes a bad smell that could knock someone over. 4.       You should make yourself look clean and tidy, whatever you wear. 5.       Everyone has his or her own opinion of the world And everyone believes in different things. It is a good thing to have different fiends with different opinions because you each can share your own.

A group of rubbish collectors in Turkey (土耳其) are recycling the books that people have thrown away. They have created a mobile library since last year.
