The son set out the next day. He had to travel across forests, rivers and mountains. Along the way, he was helped by some with food and by some with shelter (住所). He met some robbers (强盗) who tried to rob him. He also saw changing scenery (风景) and seasons.
Finally, after a long year, he got to the place his father said. He spent two days looking and digging for the treasure, but found nothing.
Disappointed, he headed back to his home. On his way back, he experienced the same scenery. Sometimes, he would stop to enjoy the beauty of nature. He also learned to hunt and make meals. He had to fix his own clothes. He was now able to tell time by looking at where the sun was. He met the same people who had helped him earlier. This time, he stayed and helped them in order to say thank you.
When he got home, he said sorry to his father for not finding the treasure.
"There wasn't any treasure, my son," the father answered with a smile. "But I think you have found your life's true purpose."
19. Years ago, Taren and his family left their home in Bangladesh (孟加拉国) to New York City, USA. Taren was only 12 years old then.

But Taren had fun. He loved singing and playing cricket (板球) with his friends. One day, Taren's dad told him they would move to New York City. Taren's dad found a new job there, and he thought life would be better there.
In his new school, Taren tried his best to understand his teachers, but it was quite hard. Also, he had few friends.
Things changed when he started high school. His high school had students from 30 countries and a cricket team. Taren was excited to join the cricket team. He was happy to be with kids who loved the game as much as he did. He practiced before and after school. "Playing with the cricket team was the first time I felt accepted in America," he said. "When you play, it doesn't matter what grade you're in or what language you speak."
During his second year in high school, Taren was named the cricket team's most valuable player (最有价值球员).

20. In choosing a friend, one should be very careful. A good friend can help you study. You can have fun together and make each other happy. Sometimes you will meet fair weather friends. They will be with you as long as you have money or luck, but when you are down, they will run away. How do I know when I have found a good friend?I look for certain qualities of character, especially understanding, honesty and reliability.
Above all else, I look for understanding in a friend. A good friend tries to understand how another person is feeling. He is not quick to judge. Instead, he tries to learn from others. He puts himself in the other person's place, and he tries to think of ways to be helpful. He is also a good listener.
At the same time, however, a good friend is honest. He does not look for faults in others. He notices their good points. In short, a friend will try to understand me and accept me.
Another quality of a friend is reliability. I can always depend on a good friend. If he tells me he will meet me somewhere at a certain time, I can be sure that he will be there. If I need a favor, he will do his best to help me. If I am in trouble, he will not run away from me.
There is a fourth quality that makes a friend special. A special friend is someone with whom we can have fun. We should enjoy our lives, and we will enjoy our friendship. That is why I especially like friends who are fun to be with. A good friend likes the same things I like. We share experience and learn from each other. A good friend has a good sense of humor, too. He likes to laugh with me. That is how we share in the joy of being friends. And I know that he is looking for the same quality in me.
When I meet someone who is reliable, honest, and understanding, I know I've found a friend!
21. One day I got in a taxi, and we left for the airport. We driving in the right lane (车道) when, suddenly, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver stopped his car at once. The tire (轮胎) made a very loud noise, and at the very last moment our car stopped just one inch from the back of the other car.
I was frightened. But then I couldn't believe what happened next.
The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, turned his head and started laughing at us. I couldn't believe it! But my taxi driver just smiled at the guy. So I asked, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost sent us to hospital!"
This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, "The Law of the Rubbish truck (垃圾车法则)." He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of rubbish, full of anger. As their rubbish piles up, they look for a place to throw it and sometimes they'll throw it at you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their rubbish and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets
Successful people never let rubbish trucks change their moods. Life's too short to wake up in the morning, with regrets, so love those who love you and pray (祈祷) for those who don't.
